So this is where the writers of father Ted got their idea for the happy couple who ran the local shop. Good old Dick Emery.
Best one I ever watched the party at vicars when crushing biscuits and rubbing in his hair teapot poured in top pocket best sketch I ever saw as bored six weeks holidays bored out of my skull teenager live to see it again
Priceless! 😁
I was born in 1987, but had I been around for when Southern were about to be replaced by TVS, I would’ve tuned into part of And It’s Goodbye From Us just to heckle Southern, before turning over to BBC One for Hi There, 82!
The days when we had real entertainment on the television and comedy.

this date causes computer problems and this bug is called Y2K
Wow it wasn't very diverse down south 40 years ago!!!!
James Montgomery when he grew a tache because he had such a young face.
Lets make a self-regarding program in which we take ourselves really really seriously.
Despite all the love and nostalgia people had for Southern, I (maybe because I’m a cynical American) view Southern as a stuffy and immature lot. They were so confident they would win and then when the IBA ruled in favor of TVS, they acted like a scorn ex. Vowing to challenge the ruling as much as they wanted to, mocking the new comer and leaving with a detestable aftertaste that shouted “YOU ALL WILL REGRET THIS!!”, proven by how they extended past the mandated Midnight ceasing for an extra 40 minutes as if to give one final middle finger to the IBA rather then to actually say Goodbye. Southern caused their own demise, if they actually tried to update their look for the 80s and maybe not send a 16 Page long application to the IBA, maybe they stood a chance against TVS, alas we’ll never know because Southern chose the complacent option. TVS’s farewell 10 years later was much more professional and mature, it definitely felt like a Broadcaster that was proud to serve its region and looked forward to what the future for the South had, unlike the “it will be dark without us” attitude of Southern.

Ah, Britain doesn't suck. And oh look, Russia, something happened
Miserable sods!!
Bro this brought tears to my eyes for some reason absolute legends
It used to be innovative and challenging as well as entertaining but it lost its spirit a long, long time ago, sadly. Most tv companies are risk averse now. A changing world and marketplace but just less colourful and exciting.
Pre dates Fawlty Towers by 10 years. 😊
Good old Billy Cotton always listened to the Radio Program with my brother and parents 1960 ......Must never forget Jimmy Clitheroe kid..... Around the Horn
It's amazing how real my memories of this show are. Fifty years gone in an instant. Me then more real than me watching this on my laptop now. And nearly everybody from then gone. It takes a wee bit of courage to even watch this.
This is probably the only millennium people have and will celebrate now thinking about it. I kinda wish I was there to witness it.
Always been a Frankie Vaughan fan, what an entertainer, with his trademark top hat and cane
I remember one night Will had been voted against.....he said he had got in touch with his mum and dad....He said His dad said, 'Annabell get the shotgun.....' Loved it. He was and is amazing....
It only attracted 14 million viewers because there were only 2 or 3 channels then, and no home computers.
Awful series.
1:46 that sentence pretty much summed up the feeling of hope people had about the new millennium that it was a chance for a new beginning, but now 24 years later, the world is a completely different place and for the mostpart not in a good way
So did the show originate in the States or UK?
When the BBC was actually worth watching!
Wonderful! I was 6 years old when this was recorded and I spent most weekends with my grandparents, so mom & dad could get some peace and have a night out. Grandad cooking breakfast as grandma scrubbed the back of my neck (because my mother never did it right, apparently), listening to the Archers on the wireless and watching Billy Cotton in black & white (no colour tv until '67, if you could afford one). I'd go back now if I could.
The pink panther theme
I would go back tomorrow if i could, i wouldn't give you tuppence for the time we live in now !!!!!!!!
Wonder why they dont show comedys like that anymore.. Just pure laughter..such innocence.. No swearing..no insults.. No barriers..!
When the show is over, we neither hear the National anthem nor an announcement about switching our televisions off altogether as a fire precaution.
Catherine Tate is a legend in our times
Where is the crowd there are no customers
HEY YOU!!! You know what TVS, an ITV franchise that stands for? And YOU know about what TVS stands for. It is "Television South". By the way, it came from January 1st, 1982 and ended on December 31st, 1992. In the previous year, 1981, Southern Television has ended operations on December 31st on that year. After 3 decades and 34 years of broadcasting from 1958 to 1981 as an ITV franchise. And Southern Television came to an end forever.
OH NO!!! NOT GOOD MORNING TELEVISION (or commonly shortened as "GMTV") AGAIN!!! THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THAT YOU BOUGHT GMTV (which stands for "Good Morning Television") HERE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM. (or commonly shortened as "UK") THAT IS IT, WHAT THE FUCKING STUPID HELL IS WRONG WITH YOUSELF? I don't think that everyone is not going to be happy about where did you get GMTV from. But... WHY THE FUCKING STUPID HELL YOU GET GOOD MORNING TELEVISION FROM? THAT IS IT, YOU BRITISH PEOPLE, YOU ARE GOING TO BE SCRAMBLED TEMPORARILY FOR GOOD. Guess what... IT IS ENDING TODAY!!! I DON'T TO GET THE STUPID BUSINESS ABOUT IT. NO, NOT TODAY!!! FOR THIS, YOU ARE GROUNDED, GROUNDED, GROUNDED FOR YOUR OWN BRITISH PERSONAL SAKE, YOU SON OF A BIG-BAD BRITISH FUCKING STUPID BULLSHITTED THINGY BITCH!!! Oh my god, I had enough of it. And this fucking stupid bullshit needs to stop bringing GMTV (or it's actually stands for "Good Morning Television") here in the house. What is wrong with this entire world. It is really, REALLY badly.
this prommage is by Fearne Cotton the great great niece of Billy Cotton
Such a skilled and talented comedian.
I wish I was fricking born before 2000 so I can just see the massive celebration from 1999 to 2000
😂😂😂
I remember Jack Hargreaves’s
"Due to timing restrictions this programme has been edited." Ah, the old RUclips.
